Practically across Fifth Avenue from the Metropolitan Museum of Art in Manhattan, the Tambaran Gallery will show work by a painter, perfumer, and glass artist in a collaborative project exploring the power of scent through history. Painter Frances Middendorf, perfumer Leonardo Opali, and glass artist Anna Boothe have been working together on "The Scent Project," which has seen four exhibitions of their evolving bodies of work — two in Connecticut, and two in Venice.
Boothe has been developing highly individual pate de verre flacons using lead crystal. Some of the vessels are inspired by the architectural details of the ornate villas where they had been exhibited in Venice, and the group has developed "trios" of a painting, a scent, and a sculptural vessel to contain it.
The exhibition in New York will run from January 13th through the 28th. There will be a presentation on January 21st at 4 PM by the founder and head of an Italian antiquarian association on the work of architect Andrea Palladio. An opening reception for the exhibition wil lbe held on January 20th from 4 PM to 8 PM at Tambaran's 82nd Street gallery space.
